VACIS® IP6500 FullScan Integrated Cargo Inspection System

X-ray imaging, radiation detection and full-vehicle scanning — a fast, integrated inspection solution

SAIC's VACIS IP6500 FullScan system is a powerful, practical solution for scanning cargo containers, trucks and other vehicles in high-volume operations. Its x-ray imaging and radiation scanning help security personnel intercept weapons, nuclear material and other contraband hidden in containers. It can scan entire vehicles, bumper to bumper and roof to tires, including occupants. And with its high throughput and small footprint, the system is ideal for seaports and other high-volume cargo facilities.

The VACIS IP6500 FullScan system provides a powerful combination of scanning features:

  • High-energy x-ray imaging can reveal contraband through more than a foot of steel. And with its low radiation dose, the system can be used in very limited space.
  • Material discrimination distinguishes light, organic material from dense, inorganic material.
  • Radiation detection can detect and locate even heavily shielded special nuclear material (SNM) with a false alarm rate of less than 1 in 10,000 - meeting or exceeding the American National Standards Institute's challenging N42.35-2006 standard.
  • Optical character recognition (OCR) identifies each container as it is scanned.

The system quickly integrates the scanning images and data for each container in the system database. Security personnel at viewer workstations in nearby or remote locations can view integrated images and data for any container at any time.

The VACIS IP6500 FullScan system is designed for practical operation at busy facilities. Built for high throughput, the system can scan large numbers of containers in the normal flow of traffic at gates or other checkpoints, without requiring drivers or passengers to exit the vehicle. With its small footprint and low radiation dose, the system can be used in very limited space. And by revealing weapons, SNM and other contraband, the system can greatly reduce the need for costly manual inspections.
The system's component technologies are now operating at ports, border crossings and other facilities around the world. The system is backed by SAIC's worldwide service organization, providing high-quality installation, training, maintenance and technical support.

VACIS® XPL Passenger Vehicle Scanning System
A compact, high-throughput, full-vehicle scanning solution for busy checkpoints.

SAIC's VACIS® XPL system scans passenger cars and other light vehicles to help security personnel search for weapons, explosives, drugs and other threats. The system scans entire vehicles bumper to bumper in seconds as they drive through without stopping. Detailed images reveal even small items such as handguns, and color coding highlights explosives, drugs and other organic materials. The system's low X-ray dose allows drivers and passengers to remain in the vehicle while it is scanned, enabling the system to scan 150 vehicles per hour or more in the normal flow of checkpoint traffic.

The VACIS XPL system provides a powerful combination of scanning features:

  • Free-flow operation screens occupied vehicles at typical checkpoint speeds in non-stop traffic flow.
  • Bumper-to-bumper scanning gives inspectors a top-down view of every part of the vehicle.
  • High-resolution X-ray imaging helps inspectors locate weapons, explosives, drugs and other threats.
  • Material discrimination helps inspectors locate explosives, drugs and other organic threat materials.
  • Easy Match feature automatically compares the current scan with prior scans of the same vehicle to help inspectors spot new objects.
  • Compact system can be installed in a few hours in typical existing vehicle lanes.
  • Remote, centralized image analysis can be performed nearby or hundreds of miles away.
  • Low X-ray dose complies with ANSI N43.17 dose limits.

SAIC is a world leader in nonintrusive inspection technology, with hundreds of systems installed for government and commercial clients around the world. Every VACIS system is available with SAIC's dedicated installation, training, maintenance and technical support.

All-Terrain VACIS® Imaging System
Non-intrusive mobile imaging wherever it is needed.

Overview

SAIC's versatile All-Terrain VACIS mobile imaging system allows customs and security agents to search vehicles and cargo for weapons, contraband and other suspicious items in remote locations and difficult terrain.

Applications

Featuring SAIC's proven, reliable gamma-ray imaging technology mounted on a rugged four-wheel-drive commercial pickup truck chassis, the All-Terrain VACIS system brings non-intrusive inspection capability wherever it's needed. The system is ideal for assisting inspection operations at temporary or surprise checkpoints on unpaved roads or off-road in hard-to-reach locations.

Features

The flexible All-Terrain VACIS system supports a variety of inspection requirements. For highest throughput, the system can operate as a portal, with vehicles driving through the stationary system. In moving mode, the system's vehicle platform and source cart move synchronously past unoccupied vehicles, scanning them from bumper to bumper.
To reach rugged, remote locations, the All-Terrain VACIS system is implemented on a heavy-duty commercial pickup truck chassis with off-road four-wheel-drive capability and a four-seat cab. SAIC's patented detector technology enables trained inspectors to view the contents of closed vehicles and containers through more than six inches of steel. Yet the system's direct radiation dose per scan to cargo is extremely low hundreds of times less than a typical dental X-ray and the scatter dose to drivers, operators, and bystanders is even lower.

Benefits

SAIC is a world leader in non-intrusive imaging technology, with hundreds of systems installed for government and commercial clients around the world. Every VACIS system is available with SAIC's dedicated installation, training, maintenance and technical support.

Exploranium® SRPM-210 Advanced Radiation Portal Monitor
Next-generation radiation detection and classification for vehicles and cargo.

Overview

The Exploranium SRPM-210 advanced radiation portal monitor (RPM) uses SAIC's unique passive scanning technology to detect, locate and classify nuclear material in cargo containers, trucks and other vehicles in the normal flow of checkpoint traffic. By automatically distinguishing potential threats from benign material, the system can significantly reduce the need for costly secondary inspections.

Features

The SRPM-210 combines economical polyvinyl toluene (PVT) gamma detectors, a state-of-the-art digital spectrometer and an innovative threat-analysis algorithm to provide threat detection and classification capabilities at a fraction of the cost of spectroscopic systems.
The SRPM-210 is highly sensitive to potentially dangerous special nuclear material (SNM), even when shielded or masked by naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM), and effectively distinguishes SNM from NORM and medical and industrial isotopes. The system also classifies the radioisotopes in the vehicle as NORM, SNM, Medical or Industrial. These features enable authorities to clear more vehicles in primary inspection, significantly reducing the need for secondary inspection.
The SRPM-210 can scan hundreds of vehicles per hour while meeting the applicable portions of the challenging ANSI N42.35-2006 performance standard - all with a very low false alarm rate. The system also graphically displays the location of radioactive sources in the scanned vehicle to help inspectors search the vehicle in secondary inspection. With these features, the system can greatly expedite the entire inspection process.

Benefits

The SRPM-210 includes an innovative technology that blanks radiation from pulsed x ray scanning systems, enabling the SRPM 210 to operate just a few meters from these scanning systems without false alarms.
The SRPM-210 uses the same PVT gamma detectors and many other components as SAIC's widely deployed AT 980 RPM, and has the same footprint, form factor and infrastructure. As a result, existing AT-980 systems can be upgraded to SRPM-210 in the field quickly and easily, and new SRPM-210 systems can be added easily to existing networked AT-980 installations.
SAIC is a world leader in radiation detection technology, with thousands of installations for government and commercial clients around the world. SAIC's world-class maintenance, training and technical support are available with every Exploranium system.
